Clique x Justin Bieber
Wednesday, September 16th, Justin Bieber was in Paris. We met the young world-famous singer at the hotel he was staying at.
Mouloud Achour starts the interview by asking him why people are so hard on him.
“I’m just kinda walking on eggshells right now. I‘m trying to make sure people don’t think I’m being disrespectful. They put more responsibility on me because of my image, of what I was representing. When you tell people you’re gonna represent belief and hope and then you’re off not really doing that, people get mixed messages”.
“Now I just want people to see me like a normal dude with my hoody ‘cause I’m comfortable and just chillin’, not tryin’ too hard.”
Mouloud Achour : “How do you explain that all people are always criticizing every little thing you do?”
“At this point, I don’t really pay attention to that. Of course, certain things will get back to me, but at the end of the day I try to tell the people around me not to tell me”.
Mouloud also brings up his friends, especially Diplo, Skrillex, and the famous boxer Floyd Mayweather, who just won his last fight ever.
“He’s “Money” Mayweather, he likes to talk about money. Which is funny cause it’s not even in a weird way. He’s always like “Make sure you’re getting at those checks, make sure no one’s getting over on you, Justin. They don’t know you’re talking to Floyd” It’s funny man, the way he words stuff, it’s really cool”.
Mouloud Achour : “Most people don’t know, but you come from the bottom”.
“I would go and share meals with my mom. We weren’t really really dirt poor but there were struggles. When I got my first check, I just felt the security to be able to take care of my mom ‘cause she always took care of me. Being able to take care of your mom feels really good”.
Mouloud : “Let’s talk about some stupid topics like your hoody and your haircut. What was the whole fuss about?”.
“People care about things like that when I change my hairstyle and stuff. To an extant, my style and my brand has shifted culture a little bit. Not to be arrogant but my influence has been really big because I had an amazing platform with Usher supporting me and all these fans. I could do what I wanted to do and I’ve always been true to myself. People can see that and they support it. I met this fan in Germany, he had the same owl tattoo than me”.
Mouloud Achour : “What does this tattoo mean for you?”
” Owl signifies wisdom and I was just itching for some more ink so it meant enough for me to put it on my body for life. People are always asking me “You’re gonna be an old man one day and you’re gonna have tattoos?”. Like I’m gonna be old and saggy and hairy anyway what does it matter if I have tattoos?”.
Mouloud mentions one of his friend whose body is covered with tattoos, so that he feels less lonely. Mouloud: “Do you know what it means to be lonely?”, he asks Justin.
“People would never guess that an artist like myself would feel lonely with all the things and people always around us.”
“I felt like people weren’t what I needed them to be for me. Now I’m surrounded by really cool people who are really for me and that I can really connect with. I’m in the best place I’ve ever been in my life.”
Mouloud: “Because you connect with the skate and electronic culture?”
Justin Bieber: “Skaters don’t give a fuck about fame so I can basically go in this environment, escape and people aren’t looking at me.”
Mouloud asks him who his 5 favorite MCs are.
“Eminem, Tupac, Biggie, Ma$e, Nas”
About his encounter with Kanye West:
“Kanye is a talker. You get him in a room he just starts talking. I’d just sit and I’d listen, you know cause he’s been through a lot of stuff. He’s obviously got something to say from the bottom of his heart. He’s a really smart guy.”
“He said something very funny about my music: “You just go to give them that music and fuck you!” but it’s not in a bad way”.
Mouloud: “Kanye decided to run as a candidate. If you were candidate, what would your first decision be?”
“I’d probably fix some of the gun laws. In Canada we don’t really have any guns and there is no gun violence. That really solves it.”
Mouloud: “ Last question, in Canada you have Drake, in the U.S you have Meek Mill. Who won for you?”
“I like them both. Drake is a better rapper but I’m not gonna choose.”
