Video: Pee against a wall in Hamburg, and it’ll pee right back at you
The residents of Hamburg’s St Pauli district had become sick and tired of hundreds of people urinating on their walls at the end of every big night out. So they decided to coat those walls with super-hydrophobic paint, which repels all liquids. As a result, anyone who opts to relieve themselves will find that they have to contend with some rather unpleasant splash-back.
“We are not only making our message clear, but also making sure that it reaches our target group,”
explains the group in the video below. The measure did not come cheap: coating 6 square metres of wall costs €500, but in the long run, says Julia Staron, the leader of the campaign group, it will always be cheaper than cleaning and maintaining normal walls.
