1, 2, 3 viva Raïs M’Bolhi – Part I
This year’s football World Cup saw an historic performance from the Algerian national team. Algerians and French nationals of Algerian descent were gripped by soccer fever.
Instead of the customary news items talking about a country divided, we saw hope for conciliation and reconciliation between the two cultures. We saw a team made up of players of Algerian origin who grew up in France and are capable of scaling the heights of the sport. We saw outsiders trouble the team that would go on to become World Champions.
And during the match with Germany, we witnessed an exceptional goalkeeper whose media silence had us intrigued. That man was Raïs M’Bolhi. The 28-year-old, who was raised in the outskirts of Paris and now plays in Philadelphia, was one of the revelations of the World Cup. He has given his first ever interview to Clique.tv.
